There are a number of MERRYWEATHER families in England but the most confusing are those from the North Riding of Yorkshire around Bedale and Yarm
The link to the BARRET family comes from the Yarm branch when George MERRYWEATHER married in Leeds, Mary WHITAKER, sister of Jonus of Greenholme Cotton Mills at Burley in Wharfedale.
Their daughter Myrtilla married Lawyer William BARRET, son of  John & Elizabeth of Otley.
 
George was a Partner with Jonus WHITAKER but left and moved to Manchester with a number of young employees from Greenwich, London.
His eldest son Dr George practised in Whitby and invented the ' Tempest Prognosticator ' exhibited at the Great Exhibition at Hyde Park.
 
The son Horatio was a Land Surveyor in Lancashire, Furness, Isle of Man before emigrating to America.
 
The grandson, eldest son of Horatio was also a Doctor in Guisborough, Yorkshire and his descendants are found in Western Australia.
